Cloud bursts in Devprayag: Three-storey ITI building collapses, more than 12 shops damaged, loss of life due to lockdown; third incident in 9 days in Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand was hit by another cloudburst on Tuesday. The incident took place at Devprayag in Tehri district. A number of shops were damaged due to the cloudburst here at around 5 pm. The three-storey ITI building also collapsed. The cloudburst has caused the Santa River to flood. 12-13 shops around the river have been flooded. Locals say there were no casualties as shops were closed due to the lockdown.

DGP claims 7-8 shops damaged
On the other hand, DGP Ashok Kumar has said that a cloudburst has occurred at the Devprayag police station in Tehri. In which 7-8 shops and ITI buildings were severely damaged. No casualties were reported, however. SDRF team has reached the spot and is providing help.

Chief Minister Rawat seeks report Chief
Minister Tirath Singh Rawat said that information of natural calamity has been received at Devprayag, the confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagir rivers. A number of shops and residences in Devprayag have been damaged due to cloudburst on a high hill. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.

The CM said the district administration and police officials have been directed to reach the spot and help the affected people on an immediate basis. It has been asked to provide detailed information about the damage caused by the disaster.




Clouds also erupted on May 3 and 7.
This is the third cloudburst in May. This was preceded by a cloudburst on May 3 in Chamoli and on May 7 in New Tehri. On May 3, a cloudburst occurred at three different places in the foothills of Binsar hill in the Ghat block of Chamoli district, wreaking havoc on the Ghat market.

More than 30 buildings were damaged in the incident. While 25 shops were also destroyed. Then on May 7, a number of houses and shops were damaged due to cloudburst in Pipola of Jakhanidhar block in New Tehri.
