It will be implemented as soon as the order of the government is received. Air force sources said the type and number of helicopters for airlifting the vaccine, the method of tilting the transport planes, the center of vaccine delivery and the last point delivery have been determined.

Preparations have been made for
cargo aircraft such as the C-17 Globemaster, C-136J Super Hercules and IL-76 capable of carrying more loads up to 28,000 cold chain centers for the vaccine, while the workhorse AN-32 and Dornier aircraft will be used for smaller centers. . As a third link, light and medium lift helicopters will be protected. Helicopters such as ALH, Chinook, Cheetah and Chetak will play a role.

A senior Air Force official told Bhaskar that at present it is not possible to say how many people will need cargo planes and helicopters for the mission as the need will be decided only after the vaccine distribution task force is formed. But the Air Force is currently working on plans to reserve more than 100 aircraft and helicopters for the mission.

The Air Force has sufficient experience in vaccine transportation, the official said. Just two years ago, the Air Force played a key role in delivering the measles and rubella vaccine to the public. This work will be done at the war level or in exactly the same way that the Air Force delivered currency to the banks at the time of the bankruptcies or the way the mission is run to deliver EVMs and personnel in certain areas at the time of by-elections.

Group Captain Sandeep Mehta, a former Air Force officer who closely monitors the relief operations, said the task force includes officials from the concerned ministries and representatives of the aid force.

In this case, a task force of representatives from the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Health and the Air Force will be formed to monitor 24 hours to ensure that the vaccine arrives at the airport on time. .

The vaccine will be packaged in a dry ice box with a pharmaceutical company but its size and handling requirements will be determined at the Air Force level.

Emphasizing that Ladakh's strategy would not be affected, the
official said that while formulating this strategy, the Air Force should take full care that the ongoing military situation in Ladakh would not be affected in the slightest. A roadmap is being drawn up to give equal importance to both military and vaccine missions and to allocate resources accordingly.
