Talking points:CSK became champions in 2010 after losing five of the first seven matches; Is there a picture left this year too, my friend?

In 2010, Chennai Super Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 22 runs in the final to become the champions.

The 13th season of IPL is proving to be very disappointing for Mahendra Singh Dhoni's fans. Chennai Super Kings have lost 5 of the first 7 matches. Ranked sixth in the points table with 4 points. A good runrate with 14 points is required to reach the playoffs. The team needs to win 5 of the remaining 7 matches to reach 14. Daddy's Army batsmen are batting slow, fielders are dropping catches and now their edge is blunted even in death overs. Will they be able to win 5 out of 7 matches? CSK fans need not give up yet, as 10 years ago today, in 2010, Chennai became champions even after losing 5 of the first 7 matches. Let's talk today, how Chennai turned the tide that season, who were the heroes of their victory and when will Mahi's team show such magic or not?

4 teams had 14 points in
2010 , 2 qualified Mumbai Indians topped with 20 points in 2010 and Deccan Chargers were in second place with 16 points. Four teams - Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders - finished the league round with 14-14 points. Chennai and Bangalore qualified for the playoffs on the basis of good net run rate.

Who won the matches a decade ago?
In 2010, Chennai won 5 of the last 7 matches, with Murali Vijay in 2 of them, while Suresh Raina, Ravichandran Ashwin and MS Dhoni were Man of the Match in 1-1. Vijay is still part of Chennai but has been knocked out of the playing XI due to poor performance. Dhoni himself has not yet decided in which order he should bat. Raina is out of the tournament, while Ashwin is part of Delhi. In the semifinals for CSK that year, Doug Bollinger took 4 wickets for 13 runs in 4 overs. In the final, Chennai beat Mumbai by Raina's 57-run innings.

Raina was the highest run scorer for Chennai in the 2010 season with 520 runs.

Raina and Vijay were included in the list of top-5 scorers.
Left-arm batsman Raina scored 520 runs in 16 matches in 2010 at an average of 47.27. Batting with a strike rate of 142.85 this season, he also hit 4 fifties. He was third on the list of highest run scorers. While Murali Vijay was ranked fifth. Vijay scored 458 runs in 15 matches at an average of 35.23 and a strike rate of 156.84. As well as 1 Century and 2 Fifty kills in the season.

Muralitharan had a maximum of 15 catches in 12 matches for CSK in 2010. File photo of Murali, Hayden and Dhoni.

When spin power struck
, Dhoni had spinners like Muttiah Muralitharan, Ashwin and Shadab Jakati. The trio took 41 wickets between them. The economy of both Murali and Ashwin was less than 7. While Jakati also gave a run with an economy of 7.65 in a reasonable way. Ravindra Jadeja-Piyush Chawla-Karna Sharma could not spell a match this season. While leg-spinner Imran Tahir has not played a single match.

"The batsmen have disappointed the team this season," Dhoni said. We have to bat aggressively in the next matches.

"The batting department is disappointed. It's better to be all out in 16-17 overs than to play like this,"
Dhoni said after the match. "Batting is a concern for us." We need to do something about this. It's good to be out playing big shots. We have to come up with a plan to counter the opposing bowlers during 6 to 14 overs. We will play a more aggressive game in the upcoming matches. Going to do so, if we get all out in 16-17 overs, it will work.

Can Daddy's qualify for the Army Playoffs?
Winning 5 out of 7 matches is tough, very tough. But not impossible. Out-of-form players, lack of intention to be aggressive in the middle overs and blunt edge in the death overs are a matter of concern. One of the clichs of this game is probably in Dhoni's favor, the match is not won by the team that has played well on the ground, but by the team that has won the mental battle. If the captain maintains his total even after winning only 2 out of 7 matches, why can't it happen in 2010-2020? One innings, one spell in the form is enough for any player.
